How to Celebrate Mother's Day in the Grand Valley (Beyond the Brunch)

Bouquet of tulips in a vase, with a card in front reading "I ♥ MOM" in red crayon. Bright, cheerful setting with soft lighting.

Mother's Day is coming up, which has me thinking about the meaning of the holiday. We celebrated it every year with my mom, usually by going on a hike or a bike. Doing something we know she enjoys.

But something shifts when you become a mother yourself. Suddenly the day means something different and also something harder to define. Is it your child celebrating you? Mine is too little to know what day it is. Is it your partner honoring the role you play? Is it mothers celebrating each other? Or is it something bigger than all of that, a recognition of a role that is enormous and constant and honestly pretty underappreciated in modern life?

I'm still figuring out how I want to show up as a mom. But I know I want to be intentional about it. And I think that's what this day is really for. Not the brunch reservation or other activity. The intention.

That intention looks different for everyone. For some, it's a quite hour of creativity. For others, it's a hike with family or a shared glass of wine with mom friends. If you want to move, make something, or just be around people who get it, here are five events happening around the Grand Valley this year.

Yoga on the Lawn at Blue Beryl Winery

Saturday May 2nd, 10am | Blue Beryl Winery, Palisade

People doing yoga on mats in a sunny garden with trees and a modern building. Bicycles are parked nearby. Blue sky and mountain backdrop.

Mother's Day comes early this year. May 2nd at Blue Beryl Winery in Palisade, there's a morning yoga class on the lawn with views of Mount Garfield, followed by a glass of wine and a BBQ sandwich from RoseBear's BBQ.

No yoga experience needed. This class isn't about being flexible or knowing the poses. It's about showing up, moving together, and remembering that your body deserves attention too. We'll keep it low key, a little playful, and entirely welcoming. Just show up as you are.

This one is for the moms who are in the thick of it with littles at home. The moms whose kids are grown and who deserve a morning that's entirely theirs. The women who want to celebrate their own mom. The grandmas. The mom friends you keep saying you'll make plans with. This is the plans.

Blue Beryl is a mom and daughter run winery, which felt like exactly the right home for this event. Come alone, come with your best friend, come with your mom.

Early bird tickets are $48 through April 18th. Regular tickets are $55 after that. Space is limited. Get your tickets here!

Sunday May 3rd, 1pm | New Way Refillery, 326 Main Street Unit 102, Grand Junction | $45

Two glass mugs with amber tea on a wooden board. One tea being poured, surrounded by loose tea leaves. Warm, cozy setting.

Hosted by Elemental Wellness and New Way Refillery, this hands-on workshop lets you learn about different herbs and their benefits, explore their aromas, and craft your own personalized tea blend to take home or gift. Tea and light snacks are included, and a massage therapist from Serenity Holistic will be on hand for 15-minute sessions at an additional cost.

RSVP via call, email, or DM. (970) 822-7476 or newwayrefillery@gmail.com

Sisterhood of Motherhood

Thursday May 7th, 6-8pm | The GJ Birth Collective, 600 Rood Ave Suite 101, Grand Junction | $25

This one is for the mothers who want to feel seen and heard. Three Sisters Theatre Company is hosting an evening of birth story performances at the Colorado Birth Collective in Downtown Grand Junction. A few birth story performances kick things off, then the mic opens up for anyone who wants to share their own. You'd have three to five minutes. No pressure. Just honest stories from women who have been in the room.

It's celebratory and real in equal measure. Appetizers included.

Hot Mom Hike

Sunday May 10th, 8-10am | Lunch Loops, Grand Junction | Free

A person with a blue backpack hikes on a desert trail under a cloudy sky, surrounded by rocky terrain and green shrubs. Mood: adventurous.

Motherhood doesn't mean slowing down. It means bringing your baby along for the ride. The Cameron Bourne of the Mothership Collective is hosting a casual morning hike at Lunch Loops for moms and moms-to-be who want fresh air, real conversation, and a little spark of adventure.

Babies and kids are absolutely welcome. No pressure, no pace requirements. Just show up as you are. There may also be a food truck post-hike so you can stick around and keep the connection going.

Free to attend. RSVP here.

Mother's Day Moon Wreath Workshop

Sunday May 10th, 1:30-3:30pm | Desert Bloom Gardening and Mushrooms, 445 Pitkin Ave, Grand Junction | $60

If you want to slow down and make something beautiful, Desert Bloom Gardening and Orchard Flower Farm are hosting a Moon Wreath Workshop using dried and seasonal flowers grown right on the farm. Soft, airy, a little wild, and very much a make-it-your-own kind of thing. They'll walk you through it so no experience is needed.

The event will also include mocktails and locally baked treats, which honestly feels like reason enough to show up. Come with your mom, your kids, a friend, or just come by yourself and have a couple of quiet creative hours.

Tickets are $60 per person and include all supplies and treats. Limited availability so purchase in advance. Sign up here!

A Note on All of This

You don't have to do everything on this list. You don't have to do anything on this list. But if you've been putting yourself last for a while, maybe this is the week to change that. Even for a morning.

Happy Mother's Day, Grand Valley.
